Yesterday was a day full of excitement. I get to work at 8 and I was standing in the entryway taking off my coat when Euan decided to drive his ride on car off a step. The entryway at work is one step down from the dining room and is tiled with travertine. So when Euan drove down that step (right behind my back and two feet from his mom) he hit his head/face on the travertine and smacked his chest on the steering wheel of the car. Madness ensued.
There was 30 minutes of inconsolable crying. Then 10 minutes of dazed 18 month old. He was sitting in his mom's lap staring at the wall. If you made eye contact with him he would begin to cry again. Finally we got him to look at us. His pupils were different sizes so I told the parents that he probably had a concussion. So we looked up other signs of concussion in children. Vomiting is one sign. We all smiled and laughed that it is wonderful he didn't vomit. Yay! So we decided to watch him closely and Andy decided to go to work.
So the kids, Julie, I went to the window to wave good bye to dad (we do this every morning). Well we get to the window, Euan coughs then vomits! Damn it. Because I was not the concerned parent I ran for a towel and got the lovely job of cleaning up Euan to hand to dad who came running back into the house. Then I got to wash off his clothes and scoop up his vomit. This was a wonderful job for a pregnant lady, I gaged so many times, the smell was so bad, and the image of the vomit going down the utility sink was too much for me.
The fun is not over yet. Julie decides to stay home from work to watch Euan and make sure he is ok. She decides to take him to the doctor about an hour later. So all of us got to go, Euan, Evie, Julie, and me. This takes 2 hours! For them to tell us that he has a concussion, watch him closely, and oh yeah he still has an ear infection (going on the third treatment). Then we spend an hour at the pharmacy! Why the fuck does it take so long to get a prescription filled when there are 4 people working the pharmacy?!
Finally we make it back to the house at 1. Julie goes to work and I get to make lunch for the kids quickly before anyone breaks down and then get them down for a nap quickly thereafter.
This was a horrible day to be pregnant at work. Not once in this six hour adventure did I think of myself or the tiny thing inside me taking up all my stores. I forgot to eat and drink this entire time. So when 2 o'clock rolled around and I finally had a second to think about myself, I was starving and dehydrated. I felt like I was going to throw up and I had an awful head ache. Note to self: always bring water and some bars in my purse everywhere I go just in case it takes longer than it should! I will learn one of these days how to keep up with pregnancy. :)
